Sulle orme di Dio. I grandi mistici di ieri e oggi

After an ample chapter dedicated to the theme of the search for God, in which the author gives voice to numerous saints, philosophers, theologians and intellectuals lived in various periods, cardinal Cordes proposes a series of portraits of “credible witnesses” - the mystics, both men and women who at some point in their life experienced God as a certainty. Among them, three theologians belonging to the golden period of the German mysticism (Hildegard of Bingen, Matilda of Hackeborn, Gertrude the Great), three teachers of the Order of Dominicans (Meister Eckhart, Giovanni Taulero, Enrico Suso), Raimondo Lullo, and the more recent figures of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Michel de Certau. It is through them that “God, considered ‘far’, ‘absent’ and ‘faceless’ by many people, addresses us. Listening to Him once again gives the courage to live”.

The Author: Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes is President emeritus of the Pontifical Council “Cor Unum”. Born in 1943 he was ordained a priest in 1961 and appointed bishop by Paul VI in 1975. In 1980 John Paul II called him to serve in the Roman Curia, and in 1995 he named him Archbishop, with the role of President of the Pontifical Council “Cor Unum”. He has been entrusted numerous missions in the world in order to spread everywhere the Pope's charity and solidarity. Benedict XVI appointed him cardinal in the consistory of 2007. He is author of various publications, mainly based on and deriving from his knowledge of movements and new ecclesial communities.

Questo volume, pubblicato in occasione della proclamazione di Ildegarda di Bingen a Dottore della Chiesa, avvenuta il 7 ottobre 2012, propone testi, riflessioni, esperienze di vita, non solo della santa tedesca, ma anche di altri figure mistiche del passato, quali Mechtilde di Magdeburgo, Gertrude la Grande, Meister Eckhard, Giovanni Taulero, Enrico Suso, Raimondo Lullo, Blaise Pascal.
Paul Josef Cordes, partendo proprio dal pensiero di queste grandi personalità testimoni della fede in Dio, ha voluto così offrire a credenti e non uno spunto di riflessione per avvicinarsi a Dio e vivere seguendo le orme di chi, prima di noi, ha creduto in Lui.
 
L'Autore: Paul Josef Cordes, cardinale della curia tedesca, è stato fin dal 1980 collaboratore prima di Giovanni Paolo II, come vice-presidente del Pontificio Consiglio per i Laici, e poi di Benedetto XVI, come presidente del Pontificio Consiglio “Cor Unum”, incarico da cui si è dimesso nel 2010 per raggiunti limiti di età. Attualmente è membro delle Congregazioni delle Cause dei Santi, per l’Evangelizzazione dei Popoli, per il Clero, del Pontificio Consiglio della Giustizia e della Pace, ed è un affermato conoscitore della realtà dei movimenti e delle nuove comunità ecclesiali.
